Hello, my name is Butch Mueller. In 1972 I participated in a 3,252 mile walk for charity from St.Paul, MN, to San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala.
I planned on spending only a short time before returning to my Minnesota home but I ended up staying 3 years.
I continued to give financially to the mission in Guatemala, but returning was not an option, while running a business and raising a family.
In 2009, I returned and started building stoves. Eventually we began building homes, then septic systems and water projects. In addition, we offer financial help for families to send their children to school, and provide Amazon tablets to students in high school and college.
Dale Welle (grey shirt), a dear friend, was instrumental in the decision to grow Stoves for Guatemala . He had a passion for helping those in need and was an inspiration to anyone fortunate to know him.
Although Dale's life was cut short from cancer in 2016, his vision continues to be an encouragement to all. Dale’s compassion for the less fortunate still inspires today. He is truly missed!
The special design of the Stoves for Guatemala Project, reduces the amount of wood needed for cooking and heating water. Families spend 20 hours or more a week gathering wood and carrying it long distances. This is time that could be spent in income generating activities or education.
